I think if you do a search on clock spring you should get some insite into the reality of the situation. :) there is a "clock spring" like connection in the steering wheel to keep the contact to the airbad constant. This is used rather than the spring loaded post that rubs on a ring that turns with the wheel (like the power for the horn). The spring eventually breaks and needs to be replaced. Yes, the TECH-II should be able to zero in on the issue. The other place that sometimes has an issue is the shock sensor mounted on the fender wheel. don't smack it or you will set the system off. Lastly, if you remove any of the SRS items with the battery attached you will cause the SRS failure to illuminate because it sensed a disconnect of the item and believes a failure occured. SO, if you are going to replace the clock spring, and you have had a TECH-II reading with that indication, BE SURE you remove the battery before you start doing the SRS work. Two reasons 1) you don't want to eat the bag do you? ,2) as noted above, removing any SRS component (airbag) will cause a fault condition and illuminate the indicator again. Of course if you are doing this work and have the TECH-II there you still don't want to trigger the air bag, right?
