I had a similar problem after having a Saab ZF autobox rebuilt. It turned out that a seal had gotten pinched, allowing high pressure fluid into the breather port, and out the breather.
The solution was to pull the autobox, open it up, and put the seal in correctly. A little misting out the breather port is normal; next, make sure the level is correct. If the level is correct and you are getting fluid flow out the breather, then the box was put back together wrong. The shop should fix this at no charge. That is not normal operation.
