Exhaust options: Swapping Intermediate Pipe for CAT?! Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Tue, 27 Feb 2007 13:45:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey all!
Does anyone know whether the Intermediate/Flex Pipe found on '93-'98 9000 Turbos can be substituted for the Catalytic Converter on a '92 9000 Turbo? I found a used one and was going to use it as an easy swap in/swap out for track days with my car. The two appear to be about the same length...haven't seen them side-by-side yet though, no time to get under my car lately.
If one can be swapped for the other, would having TWO flex pipes in a system allow the system to move around TOO much? I'm assuming it would and was thinking two or three narrow steel bars welded to the Intermediate Pipe along the flex section would be enough to keep it from flexing.
I know I can buy an cat-bypass pipe from elkparts but I don't want to pay $50 or so and spend a fortune in overseas shipping. I could also very easily make one but the Intermediate pipe already has the flanges and can use standard exhaust bolts and that seems more convenient for what I want; a quick on/off part for on/off road use. Thanks for any thoughts!
