Personal MPG best -- missing alternator spacer!! Help!

Over the weekend I took my Dad's 92 9000S to Providence because I didn't want to risk breaking down in my BMW (O2 sensor issues).
On the way home I was getting normal gas mileage. But the last 30 miles I consumed 0 gallons. Yes, you heard that right! Daggum these Saabs are certainly efficient! At least they are when they're riding on the back of a flatbed....
Why? Seized alternator.
Anyway, now to my question. I've removed the old, bum alternator, and now am in the act of trying to transfer the old pulley, etc., but it seems I must be missing a spacer or something. The stack of items I found on the old unit were the alternator housing, then the fan, then a washer, then the pulley, then the nut.
It certainly looks like there's supposed to be something between the alternator and the fan, but if it was there on the old one, it got ground into fine dust somewhere between Providence and Old Lyme. (You should see the old unit -- the shaft is at about a 5 degree angle off plumb. Think something was wrong with that part!!)
Anyone know if my instincts are correct, and if so, where I might find the correct spacer?
Many thanks!
