Lost compression-head or cylinder

My 95 CS just had a head rebuilt in the fall. The car ran good for a few weeks but steadily lost power and this week it developed a bad miss while driving uphill at highway speed. It also is using oil at the rate of about 1 quart every 500 miles. Should I bother even trying to determine if it is the head or the cylinder? And if so how can I do that?
