Is this a bad CV joint? Popping from front right.

There is a popping noise coming from the front right of the car. If I am coming to a stop, and pump the brakes a few times, it will only make the popping sound the first time I hit the brakes. Same goes for when accelerating, but its not as pronounced.
The front *left* wheel has always had the clunky brake pad problem, but this new sound on the right side sounds different. Its more of a rapid pop-pop-pop-pop, in a split second, NOT a single "clunk."
If this were the CV joint, why would it does this with the car in neutral when braking? Doesn't the CV joint only take a load under acceleration from the engine? The wheel bearing is what really transfers the weight during braking, right?
I already got under the car and inspected the subframe bolts and engine mounts :( theyre all tight.
Any help would be great. Thanks.
