Codes are stored, CEL light does not have to be on. Posted by Gene N [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: check engine light on 1990 Saab 9000, 2.3 nonturbo, T.D. Smith, Sun, 25 Mar 2007 14:11:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The CEL codes are stored in memory in the Jetronic box, so the CEL light does not have to be on to read the errors. In fact, the errors should be cleared (the procedure is in the instructions) when you are done, so that you can detect new errors.
One more thing. The DI box shares the CEL light for diagnostics. To make sure you don't have another problem, check the DI diagnostics first. The DI errors are read out by turning on the ignition, but not starting the car. The CEL will light initially (light test), then go out. If the light starts flashing, count the flashes and report back. There are only a few DI errors, the principal one being the knock sensor.
