I posted my 94cs having smoke in the exhaust and failing NJ emissions with high HC. That and my 94cde which developed a slipping clutch motivated me to do this, swap the engines. I know the cde engine is good so I want to put it in the cs while I have the cs engine on the stand to take my time diagnosing the problem. BTW I think the turbocharger on the cs is good having minimal inlet side impeller lateral play. There is no longitudinal play nor is there lateral play on the exhaust.

The clutch on the cde is less than 10,000 miles. But I used it to teach my younger son to drive stick two years ago so it has very aggrssive wear. Plus when I did the conversion I bought the wrong clutch disc. The standard turbo clutch disc is 9 1/2" diameter. I bought one 9" diameter. The Sachs clutch kits I ordered from Eeuro was waiting for me after I came back from overseas. I started working Friday evening. First I attacked the cde. Indeed the clutch is gone. I also found the turbocharger on the cde has about 1/8" longitudinal play so I replaced it with a spare.

Worked half day each Saturday and Sunday because of Easter. I am getting so good at pulling the 9k engine I can almost do it blind folded. What I found on the smoking cs engine isn't encouraging. It is on the stand in the garage waiting to be opened up. There is oil on the timing cover side and near the sump. I don't know where the oil came from. When I replaced the engine last May I sealed both the timing cover and the sump to block surfaces. I am very hesitant to remove the head beacuse the compression numbers are in the 185 to 300 psi range, dry and wet.

The cde engine with the new clutch is ready to go into the cs body but I need to to my tax return this week.
