Since tax season officially ended on Tuesday, I was able to take Wednesday off to catch up on some maintenance on my wife's 98 9kCSE that's been hanging over me for a while. I took off the snows (at last!), flushed the brake fluid, changed the oil, flushed out the coolant and replaced the thermostat. All went well and I was done by lunchtime.
I think this is my 4th time changing a t'stat on a 9k - I used to think it was a total pig of a job, but practice has made it a lot easier. Still, there's not a lot of room to work in there with all the hoses and stuff. Which brings me to my question - what's the best method for removing coolant hoses that obviously haven't been taken off in a long time and are well and truly stuck. I had a couple of these and spent a long time trying to work them loose with a screwdriver, concerned I was going to bust a big hole in the things. Any tricks of the trade I should know for next time?
