Slotted/drilled rotors serve the purpose of dissipating heat from continuous hard braking. The grooves typically cause more pad wear because of more edges to grab the pads. Solid rotors have more surface area to contact the pad so theoretically should be more effective at stopping unless the rotor has overheated and begun to warp.
