The clutch pedal return spring has two functions
1. It holds the pedal against the stop so it does not rest on the throwout bearing causing wear and
2. It applies presure on the clutch after about a third of the way down, this is to give the clutch a easier feel when it is fully depressed. I always remove these and replace the system with a simple spring to hold the pedal in the disengaged position. ( a bungie cord can be used as a temperary test)
This gives you more pedal pressure and is linear since the spring isn't trying to hold the clutch down.
This is not solving the problem which I guess is the master cylinder. But will help releive the problem you're having.
