I don't regularly look at Ebay so I don't know how often, if ever, an ISAT comes up, or what they would sell for. Rarely I would say. Tech IIs cost $2500 or so, plus the Saab card which I haven't seen on Ebay either.

That said, I would think an ISAT scan would normally cost $100 or less, but it might be tough to find a mechanic willing to make a house call.

Let's see if we can get your car running before resorting to that.

So, have you tried:

* Connecting throttle body to proper valve
* Swapping the valve on the fender for the valve on the firewall and hooking up the same way?

If you tried both steps and the car wouldn't run for you, then see if disconnecting the battery for a few hours lets the computer sort out its cobwebs. It might clear whatever codes are in there and help the thing run better the next time.

To verify the proper routing: A hose from the intake manifold goes to the firewall safety valve. Then a hose from the valve to the throttle body, with a check valve in between. Make sure this check valve is working and that it only allows air to travel from the TB towards the check valve, not the other way around.

The fender safety valve routing is a bit different. If memory serves, it's got one line from the underside of the throttle body, through a Y fitting underneath the intake hose, connecting to the turbo boost gauge inside the car through the false firewall. Then it has one line leading to the blowoff valve directly in front of the radiator on the intake hose. And a third, whose connection point I can't remember right now.

The fender valve shouldn't matter to your car's idle, so if it's not hooked up properly it may not be an issue; but search around for any connections that are suspicious as they might throw the TCS computer into conniptions.

I think as long as your firewall safety valve is hooked up to the TB properly, that should give the computer enough to run if it's going to run, unless the valve is bad. So if it continues to struggle, then you could try swapping valves. Of course, you could always have two bad valves, so the swap may not be conclusive. After that, it's likely that you'll need an ISAT to isolate the problem.
