I get the hoses cut to length cheap.
I specially have developed a way to split the A/C hose retainers that are crushed in place to hold the old hoses in place. I use a Dremmel with a 1/32 inch cutting blade to cut the caps lengthwise to within 1/8 to 1/4 inch of their origin. I spread them wide from the crotch of each cut using a flathead screwdriver.
I remove the old hose and use ester oil in the new hoses to allow them to slide on. I push them on all the way. Be careful to make sure they are really all the way on. Then I get the hose clamps specially made for A/C systems. I place 2 or 3 on either end OVER the carefully split retainers. I tighten them down gradually, until they are all tight and the original retainer is crushed into the rubber and is crushed back into shape.
I have a cheapo suction device that works with my air compressor. It cost 15 bucks. The hose it requires comes with a R12 fill kit for 5 bucks. I pull suction for at least 5 minutes. I then charge the system with 1 can and apply suction again. I then fill the system. This system works GREAT.
You must use the A/C clamps, as regular clamps crack under the strain as they need to be really tight. They are sold on Fleebay 10 bucks per 12 clamps.
Hose is on Ebay or local refrigerant places for less than 1 dollar a foot.
The R134a is cheap at Target and BJ's price club. Get the ones that contain ester oil. You need 3 small cans or 2 large ones. You need 3 ounces of ester oil to prime the system.
R12 is also sold now for 12 bucks a small container. That is not bad. I may switch back.
Hope this helps. Feel free to E-mail me.
Best,
C
