As a VW fanatic and former Corrado owner, these antennas are a love/hate thing. The biggest problem is that since they are powered, they often go bad (circuit is in the base), and then you have to replace the entire base to get any reception again. I did this 3 times over about 5 years, and then finally gave up (everything was completely stock with my radio system and electrical system...and at the time, the dealer charge was close to $200 for a new base.)
In addition, the mast itself is rubber at the connecting end (to allow it to flex) and this too degrades over time...fairly quickly. I had to buy several new masts because the rubber completely disenegrates and then your left with a floppy antenna that looks like complete crud. One solution that is popular is to get a Honda S2000 mast which is a 100% perfect match and actually does not degrade as much. In addition is is a little bit shorter and more stubby.
If you drive around and look for Mk3 and Mk4 VWs on the road...see how many of them have the floppy antenna problem.
In the end, it looks cool but your radio reception may suffer (even with things working properly)...and will definitely suffer with an S2000 mast (shorter masts get poorer reception in general.)
