Had to replace my front rotors and pads this weekend because every time I applied the brakes, it felt like metal-on-metal and braking response was poor (needed a lot of pedal pressure and felt like I was on ice).

The pads still had a lot of life left to them. However, they looked like this: the upper and lower regions/edges were worn down considerably more than the middle section (approx. 1/2" on top and 1/2" on bottom). The corresponding areas on the rotors were raised and rusted where the pad edges were worn down, and were shiny where the pad middle was still meaty.

I looked at the rears and they, too, have the same type of wear. All of this seems to say I was braking with only the small middle section of each pad, as the outer and lower edges were being chewed down.

Could the fact that the car sat for almost 6 months have anything to do with this? All 4 rotors and pads were replaced last year with Brembo flat-faced rotors and PBR Deluxe pads just prior to the car being laid-up. Proper bedding-in of the pads was done when I installed them. There were approx. 8K miles on the brakes.

Should I replace the rears or the fact that they don't do much of the braking anyway means I can leave them as they are?
