Hi,
Just installed a VDO boost gauge in my '96 CS upgraded to FPT. I decided to keep the analog clock because I really like it and use it frequently. So I chose to put the gauge in in place of the light switch. I realized that I never touch the light switch, I just leave it on all the time.
I removed removed the turning portion of the switch and reconnected it behind the dash (when dash top was removed). So the light switch is connected and sitting behind the dash.
I tapped into a wire that has power only when the key is switched on, in my case it was a green wire with a white stripe. I drewmelled away a little plastic and slipped the gauge in. I also had to build an air restrictor into the tubing because it was getting so much air that the gauge was vibrating and rattling. I guess VDO can supply you with this part too.
On one hand this is a not needed but on the other hand it is kind of fun and only cost about $50 for everything.
