Well, I still am undecided on "plus one" tire size Posted by Huey [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: 225/50ZR16 fit in Aero fenders?, Cark, Tue, 22 May 2007 05:39:30 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
based on your responses it seems to be a split camp. Since the stock size of 205/55-16 was probably "aggressive, low profile, sport" back in the 90's, now even econoboxes have 50 series. When I rented a Citroen C2 in Spain a couple years back it had 45 series tires on 17" rims and although the engine was powerless, the car stuck like *GLUE* to the curves. Convinced me that good low-pro tires are de rigeur. (A necessity, pardon my French).
The 225/50 keeps the same outer circumference, so gearing and speedo does not change. This may be good for speedo accuracy, (if you cared). Also good for looks, fills out wheel opening.
The 205/50 would have smaller circumference, so looks-wise, less fill of opening, narrower (of course), and slightly shorter gearing. In the case of the Aero, maybe a slightly shorter final drive would benefit the speed demon in me, cuz the Aero feels like a slug in comparison with my '92 rocket.
And for the Scot in all of us, (at least in me) the 215 width seems to be an oddball and therefore always more $$$.
Thanks All, I'll let you know what I end up with
