spin the wheel and put your hand on the hub. (where it's not turnIng) you should feel it rumble.
as you drive, steer one way and then the other. the side that makes noise when you turn away from it is the bad one.
rotate your tires front to back just to be sure, but if you put the weight of the car on a bearing without a properly tightened axle in place, you have a bad bearing. sorry.
