Soak all nuts with PB blaster. Don't get this solvent inside the car as it will stink the car pretty bad!(rags-hands). Torch heat if you can, the nuts. I find that rocking the nuts back and fourth as I remove the helps break the rust binding them and extra PB blaster. If you think the nuts going to break (stud twisting) then get a nut splitter and crank the nuts off. Clean the studs with wire brush and use anti-seize when reassembly and new gasket. Assemble loosely the pipe and rubber hangers and tighten. All this info. is for the down pipe, as I think this is what your talking about. For the exhaust manifold, I take a dremel tool with a small spinning disc cutter head and zip the nuts along the sides, not quite through to then threads of the studs and replace all the nuts with new. Never had a broken stud this way!
