first time they hooked it up it said invalid connection?, then it tested for a long while and said BAD, so I'm into a new battery.
Now, I'd love to diagnose my alt voltage fluctuation/readout, cause i just hit my lowest alt reading I've ever seen (hottest weather yet this year, AC, traffic)...
It read 11.9 with AC on. By the time I got back it was reading 12.3 at idle, and so I tested with voltmeter on battery cables/battery and voltmeter said 12.82, so I'm getting a 1/2 volt discrepancy between dash readout and voltmeter.
AC off dash came up to 12.7 and voltmeter read 13.18.
This alt also was putting out 14 volts this morning, after i jumped the car to go to Pep Boys, but it always seems to drop 1/2 a volt when warm.
Battery from store was 12.49 volts cold, was 12.76 by the time I got home, so alt is charging battery.
I replaced the voltage regulator sometime within 1-2 years ago, you think this is iffy behavior, or is there a good reason why alt would put out less volts when hot?
I have an aftermarket alternator that always seemed to read 14+ volts that I had put in my 92 Saab a year or so before I parted it out; never had much long term luck with aftermarket alts, so I'm hesitant to replace the Bosch if you guys/gals think I should stick with it.
Thanks again,
Aaron
