Are you talking about the end in the trunk or the end in the dash? If it's the trunk side, I bet your hatch leaked at some point. I've never heard of them corroding before.
Can you clean the corrosion off? A little contact cleaner and a toothpick or something small like that? Otherwise, I wouldn't stick it in or it could ruin the device (changer or HU depending on what end). If not, it's not a bad job replacing it.
