Hmmm. Interesting problem.

If it's not the CPS it's likely some other electrical fault or fuel.
Lemme throw some stuff out... maybe something will stick.

Since you can go fast it's not the filter, as Ari noted yesterday.

How about the wiring from the CPS to the car? I forget where it plugs in, but could there be a bad connection?

Has anyone ever had an intermittent fuel pump failure? The pump could be fine, but relays do strange things sometimes. Maybe the FP relay is having fits. Can you swap in another FP relay?

Would a fuel pressure regulator cause this? I've never had a problem with one, but stuff happens.

I doubt this, but maybe try a different DI? I've never had a DI failure, but on 2 or 3 occasions the DI on my '96 caused the car to start on 2 or 3 cylinders. Then 5 mins later it was fine. Could a DI shut down and then come back to life? I don't know, but it's something to eliminate.
