I did both, depending on speed and how I felt like. If there is still enough speed, I'd try depressing the clutch and release it in an attempt to restart. Some time it will come back to life. Others the battery light will come on to coast to a stop. If it stalls at low speed I just coast to a stop and restart.
Yesterday coming home in the stiffling heat with the coolant near boiling it did take more cranks to restart the car.
