...in the newer 900 models, you'd be given a giant "CHECK BRAKES" message every time you start the car. They want you to verify that the brake lights are functioning.
In 9000s, they had to settle for leaving the brake light warning on until you press the brake.
If you investigate it, it will probably lead to some Swedish automotive engineer who wound up committed to a mental institution later in life.
This was a "feature" they added sometime in the 95 model year. Probably meant to enhance the checklist of safety items in the Saab brochure.
You may not have noticed it before if you often start the car with your foot on the brake pedal, as most of us probably do.
