Do you have more evidence as to why your starting problem is fuel-pump related?
Starting is pretty easy on the fuel pump - it's not like it has to deliver a lot of flow. Once the engine is started, if you can drive the car and get any kind of boost, then the fuel pump is doing its job just fine.
The only thing I can think of is if the fuel pump relay contacts are poor. With the low voltages typical of engine cranking and the high current requirements of starting an electric motor, the pump may not want to spin during starting. Once the engine starts, the voltage jumps up, and that might be enough juice to get the pump running despite the voltage drop of the relay. But even that theory is pretty weak - you'd have to put enough starting fluid in to have the engine start and come up to idle speed before the fuel pump kicked in.
Why do you think the fuel pump is causing a starting problem, but allows the engine to run? (assuming it does)
