my rear muffler rusted out from the inside here in miami after 2-3 years, the middle one seems to be getting noisy from the inside. i replaced the rear muffler with a straight pipe and noticed a little peppier performance and tolerable exhaust rumble until the middle muffler started to get noisy (can't find leak, must be rusting inside)... so I bought a new rear muffler (eeuroparts matched the price at http://www.partsquick.com), and seventy something dollars and 15 minutes later (two bolts) the car is a lot quieter. if i do the middle muffler at some point, that's 4 bolts and maybe another 15-20 minutes tops.

if you don't want to DIY, like I've done on two other 9000s when pipes were welded or rusty, buy Starla parts from eeuro or partsquick for $200 or less and take to a local muffler shop, like a small time local shop, not a big chain that has high labor rates... last time i had to have a middle muffler welded on, and rear bolted on whil they were at it, it was maybe 20-25 bucks labor plus the parts i had ordered.

if it lasts you 3 years, is that good enough?

if those dealer prices didn't include labor, you're looking at $700+ for something you really don't need to spend $ on.
