Hi Nik
Good news on the keeping the '88. Remember, you would be bored sitting watching a 2004 aero in your driveway, until it comes off warranty so you can start doing stuff to it.
Re: upper motor mounts. I replaced my upper engine mounts on my '97 CSE with the poly versions from powerflex.
With a junior hacksaw, a couple of spare blades you can cut the old ones out in under an hour and the new ones are in half so just push in.
I believe the powerflex bushes are the same that abbott racing sells from the UK. (My gearbox mount had "abbott racing gearbox mount" on the label). I also replaced both the lower engine and the gearbox (poly) mounts at the same time. The overall transformation is impressive - the whole front end seems more stable and the gearshift more positive.
Initially, I noticed a little more cabin vibration, but don't notice it now. Not sure if I've got used to it or if things have settled in a little.
Good luck
