I am having some trouble with my '91 9KT/81k miles - hoping get some advice.
A little background on my SAAB:
I got in in April with a wierd squeeking noise in the engine, especially between 2500 - 3000 rpms. Above it and below it, the noise would stop. I have been using a local indie V***o (and some SAABs) guy who knows the basics. He took everything apart basically, and tried to fix it by turning the wastegate down. He also thought this would improve my turbo performance. It didn't really do much to help. I then bought a set of G6 chips, thinking this would help - which it did. After installing them, there was a little bit of rough idle, but that seemed to work its way out, however the squeeking noise re-surfaced. Performance-wise, the thing is a rocket, but lately, I have noticed again a rough idle at cold start which then turns into a stall at stops. My check engine light came on last week, so I brought it back to this same guy who has been tinkering around on it for a week and can't seem to find anything wrong!
Now he wants to re-install the original chips and try to adjust the wastegate back to spec. The plugs are turning black and apparently he even blew one out on a test drive yesterday. I think he said he also blew a hose as well (...nice). He seems to think the air/fuel mix is not matching the new chips. It seems to idle OK and runs fine as long as you don't get into the turbo too much. Otherwise there is sputtering and coughing.
Any thought on where we should start looking for problems?
