As always, pull the spark plugs - how do they look? The rough start almost sounds like plug fouling.
Here's a quick no-start but does crank question - turn the key to ON, but don't start the car? Do you get the normal idiot lights (oil, ABS, BAT, etc?) Turn the key to Start - do the lights stay on (may flicker some)?
If you can correlate No Start (but does crank) with NO lights at ON, or NO lights when cranking, the problem is the ignition switch contacts. The ON set of contacts power things like the fuel pump, LH computer, etc. So you can crank all you want but won't start. If the contacts are poor, it shows up primarily (1) on start, due to high inrush current drain and low cranking voltage, and (2) when the ignition switch is WARM. I'll bet the switch is warmer in the afternoon than in the morning. Also shows up as a hot start problem.
