Let's start with the contaminated oil Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 31 Aug 2007 14:15:15 In Reply to: 9000 saab running terrible, Hardhat, Fri, 31 Aug 2007 08:43:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First, are you sure that was gasoline in the oil? If so, 2 quarts is a lot. No, make that A LOT.
If it were coolant, I'd say head gasket.
About the only way I could see that happening is if an injector is stuck open, pouring fuel into a cylinder. And even then, the fuel has to get past the rings.
The first thing I'd do is pull the spark plugs. Are any of them fuel wet? Are you sure all plugs are firing? Check plug wires.
I don't think voltage is part of the trouble - the fuel injection system will work as low as 8 or 9 volts - typical cranking voltage. If you turn the key to ON but don't start the car, do you see the Battery (sometimes ALT) light? If not, then the circuit from the bulb, via the thin wire to the back of the alternator is bad. Or the alternator ground has come off. If that doesn't work, the alternator won't work. If you do see the Battery (Alt) light, I assume it doesn't go out when the engine runs. I assume you've check the belts (e.g. they are there and the alternator is spinning). If the engine is idling very slowly, the alternator may not be going fast enough to kick in.
If you're pouring quarts of gasoline into the oil, fix that first. Not only is it an impressive fire hazard, gas will wash the oil off the cylinders and bearings and they'll score and die. Pull the plugs and look in!
