If you're looking at your engine from the passenger side (serpentine belt directly in front of you), the compressor is the large belt-driven item at the upper right. It runs on a separate belt in your car, if memory serves.
It has a clutch which will be easy to see if it isn't turning when it's supposed to. Have an assistant turn the AC on and off with the engine running. If all is well you should see the clutch turning when the AC is on and stop when it's off.
At your car's age, a lot of things could be contributing to a non-responsive compressor, from the compressor itself to low pressure to a failed switch someplace. Know that unless your system has been converted to R134a refrigerant (it may have by now), you won't be able to find the old R12 refrigerant, and you probably won't be able to connect a new can of refrigerant because the valves are different.
As to the blower fan, if it's not running or responding to the fan speed control knob, the blower needs to be replaced. Fixing the resistor will only lead to another broken resistor, because old blowers, while they often still run, draw excessive current that kills the resistor.
Giving the blower direct current to see if it runs isn't an effective test of the blower's health.
