'95 exhaust downpipe problem?

I ordered the basically all the exhaust parts from a site sponsor, to have my mechanic install. He called me yesterday saying that the downpipe/cat I ordered wasn't really a good fit. He said that the bend in the pipe about where it comes off the turbo/engine was sharper or more restrictive than the original, and that the spot for the oxygen sensor would restrict the air even more.
Also this was supposed to be a "Bosal" part, but the mechanic is telling me that he believes it is not. Indeed I went to Bosal's website and in their catalog, the same part runs a few hundred dollars more than I paid. I had the mechanic order the bosal part so I can see them side by side.
I guess what I'm asking is, does what the mechanic said seem to make sense, and has anyone had any experience with the bosal downpipes? Or the "Bosal" downpipes from a certain site sponsor (eE)?
