since SAABs are timed with chains. if your chain broke, it would be instantaneous, frighteningly loud, and every light on your dash would illuminate. you smelled burning rubber which could mean something along your accessory belt (perhaps the alternator?) siezed. did the mechanic pull anything apart, or was it just a visual inspection?
oh, and did the car stall going down the hill, or did you shut it off yourself?
