Oil leak onto exhaust manifold

I have a 98 9000 automatic. This morning I smell exhaust in the cabin. I look underneath the car and there is oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold. The whole region on the bottom of the motor above the manifold is oily and wet with new oil. Lying on my back under the car with a flashlight I looked all around and I can't seem to find any oil except for right undereath the motor. It is the most oily right where the engine meets the transmission. I do see some oil on the drivers side of the valve cover right where the electrical harness plugs into the DI. Coming out of the open hole that looks like it used to have some function maybe on older models? I saw a very small oil trail coming out of there. I also saw some oil on a hose that runs from the bottom of the bosch compressor near the water pump and runs the width of the car behind the motor to the drivers side. But I don't see why oil would be on this hose.
Does anyone know why there would be oil in these 2 spots?
