all:

i have searched widely and post this question because nothbing i found duplicates my problem.

this is a 1998 car with 119,000 miles. complete tranny flush and new fluid at 115k (when i bought the car). on sunday and monday, did lots of highway driving without a hitch at 65-75 mph.

on tuesday afternoon, at one point the car began to kick down to 3rd on its own (no change in foot pressure on accelerator, and this was on level ground on highway), then would go back up to 4th. after a few minutes, never shifted up to 4th. we spent 2 hours going 45mph at 3500 revs.

i assumed it was bad governor o-rings and theat we would limp home in 3rd, then change them.

this morning, drove another 4 hours. car worked flawlessly.

my question is, if it were bad o-rings, and we had no 4th yesterday, why would be have it back today? also, if it were a bad adjustment of the kickdown wire, wouldn't that also mnean that no 4th yesterday would give us no 4th today?

i'm going to drive it for a few days to see if i can duplicate the problem but so far, today, have not been able to do so. same temp, weather conditions, and road conditions both days.

any thoughts, anyone?
