Noel if you look at my pics here you'll see what a '94 Aero did to
protect my safety when I'd successfully dodged a mama and a baby moose
who were dead smack in front of me, blocking my lane on a highway with
wet pavement.

Both before and after are shared there and as you can see that beautiful
car gave it's all and I am still here today as a direct result of that
gift.

The multiple side impacts of the car rolling cartwheel style were so
powerful that they narrowed the cabin measurably and pushed the back
seats out at the joint into a triangle to allow for the smaller cabin
width.
All that, and only one window was shattered and the cabin was otherwise
in such perfect condition that my mechanic sold the interior to the
very first TSN'er who asked for it, and he mounted it entire in his '91.

Swedish cars have been remarkable in their safety for so many years;
decades ago my brother in law was hit head on by a full-sized American
car, both going 45 MPH when they entered a section of road with black
ice for a combined terminal velocity head on of over 90 MPH - and when
all had stopped moving he opened the door of the 164 and walked away.

No airbags either.

The guy in the bigger car was injured, unconscious and left that way
in an ambulance.
The engine in that 164 was still reasonably whole, but the bettery
was gone without a trace, and the radiator was just ribbons, so
severe was the impact.

I hope the newer ones are even fractionally as tough, but I have my
doubts...

Best Wishes.
