I did not realize the difficulty someone had with swapping the said turbochargers. See link below. When I did two years ago on my 95CSE using one the junkyard sent me by mistake (I wanted a T-25) I had no problems whatsoever. The only problem I had was I had to use premium gas after installing the TD-04.
Today I had another chance the verify it. My wife had been complaining that blue smoke occasionally came out of the exhaust of her 94cs turbo. I pulled the turbocharger intake hose to spin the impeller. There was minimum play. But indeed there was slight blue smoke when I stop at traffice intersections. My quess is the bearing and oil seals are going out.
The TD-04 on my 95cse has been sitting in my garage for two months. I pulled the entire drive train in September. I think the engine was seized. I installed the drive train of my 94CDE on the CSE. I junked the CDE two weeks ago. To make a long story short I installed the TD-04 on wife's 94cs this morning.
I can see why Richard has problem matching up the oil drain pipe. The drain pipe for TD-04 may have been a different part. But if you rotate the cartridge so the end of the drain pipe comes as close to the spout on the block the mismatch is very little. The slight mismatch can be made up by shifting the flex hose and clamps between the oil drain pipe and spout. The good thing is the TD-04 uses a collar bolt to clamp the cartridge and the exhaust casting together. By loosening the collar bolt I can adjust the angulation of the drain pipe by tapping it with a hammer after the turbocharger is bolted up to the exhaust header.
The upshot is you can install a TD-04 meant for the Aero on non Aero turbo 9000's equipped with a T-25.
