Don't ya just hate it when you go to do a fairly easy job and it turns into a f-ing disaster?

I go out to do the t-stat on my daughter's '95 CS. I'd done this on my '96 and knew what to do, that it's a bit annoying and awkward, but also knew it was only a couple hours max.

NOT!

I drain coolant and get the throttle body hoses out of the way, then loosen the bolts for the stat housing. The bottom one is very hard to turn, but I take my time, use some PB Blaster and it comes along OK. Until it breaks off, about 1/2" from the head. I think who ever had done it before may have cross-threaded it--it had that kind of feel to it. Or maybe it was just really corroded. Either way, it broke off. :-(

Vice grips and other implements of destruction were of no avail. Can't get at the bottom bolt/nut on the throttle body so I can get it off and then drill out the stud for the stat. (cue black thoughts and blue language)

I'm out of light, need to work tomorrow due to lots of travel the next two weeks, and my daughter now won't have her car at school. This has not been a very good day. (but I did get the winter tires on 2 cars without any trouble!).

Anyone been there/done that on this one? Any help, commiseration, etc., is welcome. I think my indy may inherit this job due to lack of time on my end.
