Yao, I know you have had lots of experience with this. Thanks for the answer. First, one problem is that on my 98, I don't think there is any mark for the crank being at 0 degrees, TDC. Because at 180 degrees, No. 1 will also be at top dead center. So, when I put No. 1 at TDC and set my cams, I am thinking I set them on the TDC for the exhaust compression, not the intake. I can't understand any other way for the compression to be about 80-90 in all cylinders. (Coincidentally, that is about half of what it should be.)
But if it is 180 off, why would I need to loosen the cam bearings and the sprockets? Couldn't I just loosen the chain and rotate the crank one turn, back to the other TDC?
Yeah, I hope no valves are damaged, but I didn't hear any unusual noises while cranking and I don't think I would get 90 psi if they were damaged.
