I got a 1996 in a similar situation for $1300. upper radiator hose split from end to end like you'd gut a fish... don't think it was a quality hose... PO ran it anyway and overheated it. Head gasket time. I had another head that I purchase years ago to get just a valve cover to replace a cracked one that leaked under torque and pressure. seller would only sell together. so I purchased them and put the head on the shelf after getting it pressure tested and cleaned. so I used that head on the car and all is well. did replace the water pump, radiator, temp senders and several hoses just because... and all is well. I do have the head and can get it checked out if you really have a cracked head.
