Bought a '97 9K CSE AT from flea bay for the other half to drive for her winter car/daily driver. 76'000 miles, from Long Island then PA no rust,(VERY important here in Vermont, 3rd owner. Supposedly needed a turbo because of excessive exaust smoke. Car was as described except for the condition of the engine. I expected to do the turbo, and maybe a head gasket, etc. with this mileage. HOWEVER, once our indy started on it, we find out that it needs a complete rebuild. Crank scored, headgasket blown, timing and balance chains and sprockets shot, havent checked the ring gap yet, just pulled the engine today after finding that it needs crank work.
At this point I am comitted to getting this car going and expecting another 200,000 from it. Have noted the issues to the seller and E-Bay but no response so far.
Anyone know how far under the crank and rod bearings are available for? One source says .01mm for the crank. If anyone has a good, and I mean GOOD short block for a '97 B234M, that may be a better option for us at this point.
Suggestions appreciated. But don't tell me buyer beware, this will be our 5th Saab from E-Bay. The rest, after normal maintaince work, have been good.
TIA
JD
