I just think this particular site was trying to rip people off! I'd personally pay a premium because I prefer to buy from a specialist dealer, of which there are quite a few here in the UK. They are also set up for part-exchange deals, which suits me as I've grown tired of trying to sell cars privately.
I seem to be keeping my 9ks for about 5 years, by which time they've done say 180k miles, and I feel like an upgrade. However I now drive the car less (I have other vehicles) and I don't feel I need upgrades, or big payments for something new and shiny.
All the same, if I did try to sell my Anniversary privately I doubt if I'd get more than £1,250 for it (say $2,500) in the UK market. Our fuel is now over £1/$2 per litre, the London congestion charge is being restructured to penalise higher CO2 levels, and Vehicle Excise Duty (the annual tax you pay to the Government) already does so, though older cars like mine currently escape the worst of this. For many motorists on our crowded island, something small, economical and probably Japanese makes more sense. I guess my 9k is a dinosaur, like its owner!
