& she isn't an aggressive driver, she might not really care (or even notice) the loss of power when using a lower-octane fuel. I know my wife wouldn't.

But you would get the best performance out of the motor if it is fed the recommended octane. It may run on lower octane, but the ECU will quickly reduce boost (& maybe retard timing?) if it senses knock with the lower grade of fuel. So, you simply wouldn't be getting the most of the motor's capability.

Both of my turbo cars get higher-octane fuel nowadays. The Volvo V70R requires it, & my 9000CS now has a SQR tune for which 93 octane is recommended.
