You always have the best answers to electrical stuff. This is bugging me and haven't had time to track it down.
My gas gauge periodically will act up. I'll have X amount of gas, and I'll look down and see the fuel light on. A few minutes later it is reading normally again. This can happen at any level of fuel, even full. It does occur more when it's cold. Been happening a lot lately.
I can go out, knowing I have, say, half a tank. The gauge will be on empty and the fuel light is on. After a few minutes it creeps up to 1/4 and eventually to half, as if there is some resistance in the circuit. Other times it will be fine then suddenly drops to empty, like turning a switch. Then a minute later (or half an hour) it will be fine again, just as fast.
Seems obviously electrical, but am not sure where to look. One Saab tech told me the wires from the tank are a short section that connects to the main harness and his guess--without looking at it--was that there might be some corrosion in there. He'd seen that cause other fuel gauge problems.
This is my '96 CSE, 145K. No idea how old the pump is. Could be original.
All other gauges seem fine, although I have seen the temp gauge twitch suddenly a few times, but it reads fine 99.9% of the time.
