Thanks again. After thinking about the basic function of the Throttle Body Potentiometer/safety switch, there really isn't much that can go wrong with these units. It would seem to be that the only reason you would have to calibrate is if you changed throttle bodies and the new/used throttle body had different resistance versus throttle position characteristics. The safety switch appears to play an important role in telling the computer when the throttle plate is in the idle position versus an open position.
I agree with your recommendation about searching out a potential future replacement. I've seen quite a few on Car-Part.com in the $75-125 range. The newer ones apparently require some kind of adapter with the gold plated pins.
