Have you checked the pedal switches as well? Not the same as the brake lights (that switch is higher up) - you have one or two depending on whether it's manual or automatic. They can slip out of contact if not firmly held in the mount, or the plastic "wings" that secure them can break and let them tilt over. Or the switches themselves can be faulty...
