I've got an 88T with 181k and really like it. I did a lot of work on it after I bought it for $400 at 150k. I took an 89s off the road at 256k last summer because of rust and a broken windshield. It still ran great. As Ari said, though, you have to be willing and able to do your own work.
If I were to warn you about anything it would be the abs system. It is unique to 88. Be sure it's AOK.
