Mystery urgent Electrical blackout problem

Hello Every one,
I connected the power leads from my car battery charger to the battery in my saab, I went into the cabin and turned on the ignition and suddenly I heard this loud ticking noise coming from around and perhaps from the direction directly behind the radio. THe ticking noise lasted for about 1-2 second after which all the ignition and interior lights went blank, I was unable to get any proof of life electricity even after turning the ignition key on and off several times. I went to see if I had done something wrong when connecting the leads from the charger to the battery and lo and behold I forgot to remove the "positive" terminal connection before putting the positive lead from the charger. Its obvious that the Saab blew something but what, I had a mobile car electritian roll out to my place to see if he could fix the problem but he was unable to find the source but he did say that he knew nothing about Saabs so there went my hundred bucks for nothing.
Can some electrical expert be able to lead me to the point of cause for this blackout i.e, is it a fuse or a relay and where exactly should I be looking to replace the darn thing, I would sincerely appreciate urgent advice on this since im not able to drive the car to go to work, pleeeeease! and thank you guys in advance.
