Re: How in the world do you get the oil pan back on? Posted by TML [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How in the world do you get the oil pan back on?, Marty, Fri, 28 Mar 2008 22:13:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just did this last weekend. I found it much harder to get out than get back in. How did you remove the transfer tube? It seemed to me like you'd have to remove the axle to get that off. The pan will definitely go on with the transfer tube in place. Here are the keys that allowed me to do it:
-disconnect the front engine mount from the engine (three bolts, and it's held in place by one or two locating pins)
-disconnect the aluminum axle support bracket from the the rear (three bolts and two locating pins)
-remove the bolt from the top mount / torque limiter
-loosen the transmission mount
-lift the engine from above using an engine lift pulley system. If you don't have that, you might be able to jack it up from below but I imagine it would be more tricky.
-I removed the oil filter housing as well, but I'm not sure if it was necessary
When you put the pan in, you definitely have to wiggle it a bit to get it by the oil pump tube on the inside, and the intermediate drive shaft dust cover on the outside. Don't forget the anerobic sealant, this is not a job you want to re-do.
