I recently had the exact same symptoms with my '93 Aero. It turned out to be the ACC unit. I found one on fleabay for about $25.00
I cross-checked part numbers with eeuroparts, and ended up with one that matched their "new" P/N. They have a rather specific comment on their website as to which one to use... and they charge $900 for it.
In your case with the Rear control capability, you might give it up to save a few hundred dollars, and you might need a very specific part.
I'd wait until you find the right part number on fleabay, or check the classifieds here. I looked for a couple weeks and different things showed up.
I replaced the cabin temp sensor with a known good unit, and the ACC still went full cold unless it was set to HI.
Best of luck, and let us know how it ends up.
